Odisha CM Awards ₹50 Lakh to Hockey Star Deep Grace Ekka for Asian Games Bronze

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced a cash prize of Rs. 50 lakh for hockey star Deep Grace Ekka, who played a pivotal role in India’s bronze medal win at the 19th Asian Games in 2022.

Patnaik commended Ekka’s remarkable performance and highlighted her as a role model for the youth of Odisha, calling her a symbol of hope and pride for aspiring athletes across the nation.

The 28-year-old defender, who hails from Sundargarh district, made her international debut in 2011 and has been a vital part of the national team since then. She has a rich history of representing India on the global stage, including the Rio and Tokyo Olympics.

Ekka’s impressive list of accolades includes bronze at the Women’s Asia Cup in 2013, gold at the 2016 Asian Champions Trophy, and gold at the Asia Cup in 2017. She also contributed to the team’s silver medal at the Asian Champions Trophy in 2018 and the 18th Asian Games, and bronze at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Her most recent achievement was securing gold at the inaugural FIH Women’s Nations Cup in Spain in 2022. Her consistent performances and unwavering commitment have elevated her to a position of pride and inspiration in Indian sports.
