ECI Official’s Odisha Trip Fuels Early Poll Speculations; State CEO Responds

Bhubaneswar: Amidst discussions within the power corridors, the possibility of early polls in Odisha is gaining attention. A senior official from the Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to visit Odisha in September to engage in detailed talks with district Collectors on matters related to elections.

Nikunja Dhal, Odisha’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), highlighted the significance of elections in India as a major festival and emphasized that adequate time is required for meticulous preparations. EVMs and VVPATs have already been procured for 9 districts in the state, with examinations scheduled for October.

Dhal clarified that the ongoing preparations are not indicative of an early election in Odisha. Stressing the importance of proper resource procurement, manpower training, and document printing, Dhal stated that their preparations are aligned with the timeline to be declared by the ECI.

Assuring readiness for the polls, prominent political parties in the state expressed their preparedness. BJP MLA Mukesh Mahaling underlined the continuous organizational efforts undertaken by the party, and BJD MLA Dibya Shankar Mishra affirmed their commitment to serving the people and implementing welfare schemes.
