Elephant & Calf killed in Arrow Attack; Forester Suspended

Keonjhar: A female elephant and a calf were killed by a poisoned arrow. The incident took place in Kalapat Reserve Forest under Telkoi forest range in Keonjhar district.

The Forest department suspended a Forester and issued notices to a Range Officer and a Forest Guard in connection with an arrow attack.

As per the reports, H.D Dhanraj, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Keonjhar suspended Forester Purna Chandra Mohanta.

Decomposed carcasses of a female elephant and her newborn calf were spotted by locals on November 7. A broken arrow was recovered from the body of the female elephant during the autopsy.

The arrow went into the stomach of the elephant and hit the uterus. This resulted in the death of the calf in the womb. The female elephant died after giving birth to the premature dead calf.
