Impersonating Cops, Four Men Cheat Policemen of ₹10 Lakh in Cuttack; Arrested

Cuttack: Four individuals have been arrested by Mangalabag police in Cuttack for allegedly swindling two policemen out of approximately Rs 10 lakh.

The arrested culprits, identified as Sarojkant Jena, Manoj Patnaik, Rajesh Kumar Khuntia, and Susanta Kumar Sethy, had impersonated themselves as fellow police officers to befriend two sepoys of OSAP. Under the pretence of being “special police,” they convinced the sepoys to hand over Rs 9.80 lakh in cash, promising to return 20% of the amount.

However, the accused never fulfilled their promise, prompting one of the victims to lodge a complaint. Based on the complaint, the police took action, leading to the apprehension of the culprits.

The arrested individuals had employed a similar modus operandi in other locations like Dhenkanal, Nayapalli, Pahala, and Sundargarh.

Their method involved deceiving victims by presenting them with a bag filled with money mixed with currency note-sized papers. The police managed to seize Rs 1.30 lakh, a car, and a gold necklace from the possession of the accused.
