Bhubaneswar Witnesses Record-Breaking Rainfall Since 1952; Red Warning Issued

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar has witnessed record-breaking rainfall since August 1952, surpassing a 71-year-old record, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The city received the highest August rainfall since 1952. The IMD issued a red warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 2, 2023, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall likely in districts including Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

Additionally, an orange warning has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts, including Jajpur, Bhadrak, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Sundargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, and Balasore.

The situation has left people in shock and confusion, as the BMC (Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation) has been using boats to rescue people from low-lying areas of the city. Furthermore, the BMC is employing motors to remove water, and dewatering processes are underway at 17 locations in Bhubaneswar.

The extreme rainfall has posed significant challenges to the city’s infrastructure and has been a cause of concern for the residents. Authorities are taking necessary measures to mitigate the impact of the heavy rainfall on the city and its residents.
