Jumbo Calf Found Dead; Forest Dept Yet To Ascertain Cause Of Death

Bhubaneswar: An elephant calf has been found dead in the Dhuannali-Silingapada-Tamana jungle near Banapur under the Balungaon forest division in the Khordha district a jungle on Wednesday evening.

Forest department officials found the calf dead while they were carrying out patrolling. The reason behind its death is yet to be ascertained, said sources.

On being informed, staff from the Balugaon forest division reached the spot and sent the carcass for post-mortem.

According to the Forest officials, the reason behind the death of the elephant calf will be known upon receipt of the post-mortem report.

It is worth mentioning here that frequent deaths of elephants have become a matter of grave concern for the Forest department as well as wildlife lovers. Over 600 elephants have died due to various reasons in the state during the last decade.
