Kharabela Swain Backtracks, Rules Out Independent Run in Balasore; BJP’s Predicament Continues

Bhubaneswar: BJP leader Kharabela Swain, after initially expressing dissent over being denied a ticket from Balasore Lok Sabha constituency, has now taken a softer stance. Swain, a three-time MP, had previously hinted at contesting independently but has since retracted that statement.

In a press conference, Swain proposed adjustments to the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate list. He suggested that he be considered for the Balasore seat, while the incumbent MP, Pratap Sarangi, could shift to the Kandhamal Lok Sabha constituency. Swain highlighted his successful track record in Balasore and his ability to garner votes in Kandhamal.

Regarding the current BJP nominee for Kandhamal, Sukanta Kumar Panigrahy, Swain questioned his electoral performance in previous elections. He expressed confidence in Sarangi’s ability to challenge the BJD candidate, Achyuta Samanta in Kandhamal, stating his willingness to support Sarangi’s campaign.

Swain also suggested Sarangi’s candidacy for the Nilagiri Assembly seat, given recent party defections. He emphasized the potential for mutual benefit if his suggestions were considered.

Swain clarified his intentions, stating his desire to represent Odisha in Delhi rather than vie for the CM position. He cited his extensive electoral experience and his commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directives.

Swain affirmed his willingness to wait until May 7 for potential changes to the candidate list, framing his suggestions as beneficial for BJP’s success in both Balasore and Kandhamal constituencies.
