Lightning Strikes Claim Three Lives In Two Separate Regions

Bhubaneswar: Several lightning strikes in separate regions of the state resulted in as many as three fatalities, on Tuesday. In the first case, two persons were killed at Bhubanpur village under Madhupurgarh panchayat, Dharmachaya block, Jajpur district.

Banchanidhi (20) and Chandan Mallik (16) have been identified as the deceased. Lightning hit the two as they were working in the fields and knocked them out cold. On being informed, locals rushed them to a nearby hospital. However, they were pronounced brought dead by the doctors.

Another incident involves a boy who was killed by lightning this afternoon in Kalakhunta village, under the Khaira police jurisdiction, in the Soro block of Balasore. A pal of gloom descended on the entire village after the news broke out.
