Maoist Camp Busted in Malkangiri, Arms & Ammunition Seized

Malkangiri: Security personnel busted a major Maoist dump near the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border in a jungle in Dhakadpadar village in Jodamba area of Malkangiri. Basing on intelligence inputs search operations had been taken up in the area.

According to a police press statement, a sizable cache of weapons, explosives, IEDs, and other incriminating items were found at the Maoist camp. There were materials that could have been used to make IEDs to target both security personnel and civilians. A country-made pistol, a 16 kg tiffin IED, four home-made codex wires, one HR grenade, two hand grenades, two detonators, two electronic detonator wires, an empty detonator, a Maoist uniform, and four bundles of electric wire, etc. were among the seized items.

“These explosives, together with other items, are believed to be the property of Maoist AOBSZC cadres, who intended to use them against defenceless citizens and security personnel in order to carry out their subversive, anti-national operations. Additional combing and search efforts are being conducted in the region following the recovery,” the police added.

Speaking to the media, Malkangiri SP Nitesh Wadhwani said, “The ultras’ camp was raided and a large number of weapons and ammunition, including country-made rifles and IEDs, were recovered. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the Ghar Wapsi effort of the Odisha Police in attaining its goals. We hope that this effect extends to further Maoist-affected regions as well”.
