Odisha Man Strangles Girlfriend for Talking to Another Person on Phone

Sonepur: In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her lover for talking to another person over the phone in Odisha’s Sonepur district on Sunday.

The victim has been identified as Mandakini Patania of Balipali village at Kenjhiriapali panchayat under Birmaharajpur police station in Sonepur.

The accused, identified as Linga Dehury, reportedly attempted to destroy evidence by setting the victim’s body on fire.

According to reports, Patania and Dehury were in a relationship for some time. Villagers informed authorities that an argument ensued between the couple after Dehury reportedly found Patania talking to another person over the phone on Sunday.

Sources allege that Dehury, in a fit of rage, strangled Patania and later transported her body to a secluded location outside the village, where he set it ablaze in an attempt to conceal the crime.

Upon receiving information about the incident on Monday morning, police reached the scene, recovered the partially burnt body, and initiated an investigation. The accused has been detained for questioning.
