Migrant Agony: Odisha Worker’s Hand & Leg Chopped Off By Middlemen

Gajapati: In a horrifying event, a migrant worker lost his palm and leg, for allegedly asking for his wages.

The worker identified as Sanka Murmu, a resident of the Kalaba village under Adaba police limits alleges that he had been tortured severely and accused four middlemen of chopping off his palm and leg as he asked for his wages.

According to reports, the victim was lured by four youths from the same area with a job offer and taken to Uttar Pradesh where he worked in a cement factory.

Murmu had been working for a week in the said factory before the middlemen beat him and forced him to consume alcohol when he requested his wage.

Following this, Murmu’s left leg and right-hand palm were severed by the four middlemen when he was sedated. They, however, admitted him to a hospital where he was treated for two days. The intermediaries recently dropped off Murmu at his home and warned him that filing a police complaint would result in terrible consequences for him and his family.

While speaking to media representatives regarding the incident, Murmu stated, “They assaulted me when I asked for money after working for seven days at a cement factory. They cut my legs and palm. They warned me of dire consequences which prevented me from filing an FIR.”

Meanwhile, the District Labour Officer ensured that adequate actions will be taken against the culprits and hoped for Murmu’s speedy recovery
