Senior Doctor at MKCG Medical College Arrested for Using Fake Caste Certificate To Get Job

Koraput: A shocking case has come to light in Odisha, where a senior doctor at MKCG Medical College & Hospital in Berhampur has been arrested for allegedly using a fake caste certificate to secure his job.

The accused doctor, Durgadatta Sasani is a resident of Samabaya Colony Semiliguda area of tribal dominated Koraput district.

Durgadatta is currently working as assistant professor in the anaesthesiology department of MKCG Medical College in Berhampur.

The arrest follows a complaint filed by his younger brother on July 20, 2023.

The complainant alleged that Dr. Sasani, originally a Brahmin, misrepresented himself as an Adivasi to secure admission to MBBS in 2006 and a specialization course in 2014 at MKCG Medical College. The accused reportedly obtained a false caste certificate in 2003 under the surname ‘Jani,’ falsely claiming to be the son of a person from Mandarguda village belonging to a scheduled tribe.

Dr. Sasani had been serving as an assistant professor since 2021. News of Dr. Sasani’s arrest has sent shockwaves through the medical community and raised concerns about the potential misuse of affirmative action policies. Investigations are ongoing, and the outcome of this case is certain to be closely watched across the state.
