Festive Cheer Shattered: Burglars Loot Gold Worth ₹20 Lakh from Bhubaneswar Home

Bhubaneswar: Amidst the joyous bustle of New Year preparations, a Bhubaneswar family faced a shocking blow as burglars targeted their Chakeisihani residence, decamping with gold ornaments worth a staggering Rs. 20 lakh. The brazen heist took place while the homeowner, Debadutta Samal, and his family were away on vacation.

Adding insult to injury, the criminals gained entry after breaking through at least four locks, suggesting meticulous planning and execution. Samal, speaking from Jaipur on his way back to Bhubaneswar, expressed disbelief and distress.

“We handed over the house keys to our trusted tenants while we were gone,” he explained. “I was supposed to collect the keys directly, but before I could, I received the devastating news of the break-in.”

With suspicion naturally falling on the tenants, Samal urged the Mancheswar Police to conduct a thorough investigation, including a close examination of the tenants’ involvement. “We’ve lived here for 30 years without any such incident,” he added, his voice heavy with the weight of the violation. “We expect a swift and comprehensive investigation from the authorities, and want all possibilities, including tenant involvement, to be rigorously explored.”
