Bhubaneswar: While Odisha has been sweltering under a scorching heatwave, the Regional Meteorological Centre offers a glimmer of hope. Light rain or thundershowers are expected to bring much-needed relief to several districts starting April 20.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecasted light rain or thundershowers in districts including Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Gajapati, and Ganjam on April 20.

Similarly, on April 21, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj may experience light to moderate rainfall.

The trend is expected to continue on April 22, with rain likely in districts such as Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Angul, and Balasore.

Amid these conditions, the Meteorological Centre has highlighted the prevailing heat wave, attributing it to dry northwesterly/westerly air and intense solar radiation. Over the next three days, temperatures are anticipated to rise by 2°C to 4°C across many districts, with maximum temperatures exceeding 40°C in several areas. Some districts may experience temperatures 3°C to 5°C above normal over the next four to five days.
