Odisha Govt Intensifies Identification of Bangladeshi Infiltrators Amid Bangladesh Unrest

Bhubaneswar: In response to recent unrest in Bangladesh, the Odisha government has instructed district authorities to identify potential infiltrators from the neighbouring country, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the state Assembly on Monday.

Responding to a query by MLA Bhaskar Madhei regarding the state’s efforts to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators in regions such as Kendrapada, Bhubaneswar and Puri, the Chief Minister stated that district Collectors and SPs have been directed to take necessary actions.

The identification process is being prioritised in Kendrapada, Bhubaneswar and Puri districts. According to data presented in the Assembly, the number of Bangladeshi infiltrators identified includes 2 in Bargarh, 199 in Bhadrak, 1,649 in Kendrapada, 17 in Bhubaneswar, 1,112 in Jagatsinghpur, 655 in Malkangiri and 106 in Nabarangpur.

Reports reveal that the identification process will be carried out through committees established at the block, tehsil and police station levels. The previous BJD government had identified a total of 3,740 Bangladeshi infiltrators residing in the state.
