Faculty Shortage: 355 Teaching Positions Vacant in Odisha’s Medical Colleges

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Niranjan Pujari, in an Assembly session today revealed that there are currently 355 vacant positions for Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors in government medical colleges in Odisha. This information was provided in response to a query posed by Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, the MLA representing Khandapada.

To put this into perspective, the total sanctioned strength for these teaching positions in the state’s government medical colleges stands at 1656.

This shortage of faculty in medical colleges raises concerns about the quality of education and healthcare services in the state. Filling these vacancies is essential to ensure that medical education and patient care continue to meet the required standards.

Efforts to address this issue and recruit qualified individuals to these critical positions are expected to be a priority for the state government in the coming days.
