Official Inquiry Launched by Rourkela SP in Asst Collector Sushmita Minz’s Death

Rourkela: The Rourkela Superintendent of Police has ordered an investigation into the death of Assistant Collector Sushmita Minz. DCP-rank officer Banita Majhi has been appointed to lead the probe.

This decision comes in the wake o demonstration by members of the Sundargarh Adivasi Mach, a tribal organization, who demanded a CBI investigation into Sushmita Minz’s demise. They held the Collector and the Rourkela ADM responsible for her death and called for the arrest of these officials.

Sushmita Minz was discovered dead in Sensory Park’s pond, located within the Plant Site police jurisdiction in Rourkela city, on September 19. The post-mortem report has confirmed her cause of death as antemortem drowning, with no signs of homicide, according to IIC JR Pati of Plant Site police station.

However, Sushmita’s brother, in his police complaint, alleged that she was murdered and cited work-related stress as a contributing factor. He placed blame on several officials, including the Sundargarh Collector, Rourkela ADM, Gurundia Block Development Officer, Gurundia Child Development Project Officer, and a female Sub-Inspector of police.

The family of Sushmita Minz has raised suspicions, asserting that the police and doctors colluded to produce a fabricated post-mortem report to conceal the true cause of her death. The investigation is expected to shed light on this tragic incident.
