Why Telangana Model Can’t Be Replicated In Odisha?: Newly Joined BRS Leaders

Bhubaneswar: After several political leaders including former state Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Telangana’s Odisha base is hopeful of forming the government here.

Holding a press meet on Sunday in Bhubaneswar, the newly-formed party leaders said that they want to replicate the same model in Odisha ahead of the 2024 elections.

“We joined BRS after seeing the Telangana model & why can’t it be replicated here? Several leaders from the ruling BJD & other parties who have been sidelined will join us. Hopeful of forming govt here in Odisha in 2024,” said Odisha BRS leaders during the presser.

While the strategy adopted by the BRS to expand its footprint in Odisha appears to be well-reasoned, it remains to be seen if it will bear dividends amid the political clout held by parties like the BJD, Congress and BJP.

At the heart of the strategy is the plan to tap Telugu-speaking voters in the southern Odisha districts and allure the farming community with the ‘Telangana model’ that promises free electricity, annual crop assistance and death benefits for farmers.
