BCCI Approves Women’s IPL; First Season To Be Played Next Year

Mumbai: During its Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Tuesday in Mumbai, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave its approval to establish the eagerly anticipated Women’s Indian Premier League.

The declaration came after a number of important choices were made during the AGM, including the choice of Roger Binny to succeed Sourav Ganguly as president of the BCCI.

Although an official window has not yet been disclosed, previous media sources have indicated that the first season of the Women’s IPL could be conducted in March of 2023. It will supposedly begin soon after the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa and is predicted to feature five teams.

If media reports are to be believed, a maximum of six of the 18 players on each team’s roster may be foreign recruits. However, as opposed to the maximum allowed for the men’s IPL, an eleven may have up to five foreign players.

Additionally, one of these five players must be from an Associate nation, suggest reports.

22 matches are scheduled to be played by the BCCI in the Women’s IPL this season, whereas, a later announcement will be made addressing the window and schedule.
