World Cup 2023: Glenn Maxwell Falls Off Golf Cart, Ruled Out of England Match

Ahmedabad: Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell will miss the upcoming World Cup clash against England on November 4 due to a concussion and facial bruising sustained in an unfortunate golf cart incident.

Maxwell, a crucial all-rounder for the Australian team, was reportedly riding on the back of a golf cart after a round of golf on Monday when the accident occurred. The 33-year-old cricketer, who plays a vital role in the team’s middle order with the bat and shares spin duties with Adam Zampa, recently made history by smashing the fastest century in World Cup history, achieving the milestone in just 40 balls against the Netherlands in Delhi last week.

However, this incident is Maxwell’s second freak injury in less than a year, as he had previously broken his leg at a birthday party in Melbourne last November and has not fully recovered from that.

Both teams, Australia and England, had a week’s break between their matches against New Zealand and this upcoming clash, and the players were enjoying a round of golf when the unfortunate accident occurred.

It’s worth noting that similar golf-related injuries have affected other cricketers in the past, with England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow also suffering a golf-related injury that ruled him out of the T20 World Cup last year, which his team eventually won.
