Haris Rauf Sets Record For Most Runs Conceded In A Single ODI World Cup Edition

Kolkata: Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf set a new record for most runs conceded in a single ODI World Cup edition when he gave away 533 runs in nine innings during the 2023 World Cup in India. This surpassed the previous record of 526 runs held by English spinner Adil Rashid in the 2019 World Cup.

  1. Haris Rauf- 533 runs (2023)
  2. Adil Rashid- 526 runs (2019)
  3. Dilshan Madushanka- 525 runs (2023)
  4. Mitchell Starc- 502 runs (2019)

Despite his horrible run in the tournament, Rauf remained a consistent presence in the playing XI, featuring in all nine fixtures for the team. In the recent match against England, he struggled yet again, conceding 64 runs while managing to take three wickets at an economy rate of 6.40.

Pakistani fans expressed their dismay at Rauf’s inclusion in the lineup throughout the tournament, given his less-than-impressive run. In the face-off against England, the team’s bowlers faced difficulty containing the opposition’s batting prowess. Ben Stokes led the charge with 84 runs off 76 balls, supported by Joe Root (60 runs off 72 balls) and Jonny Bairstow (59 runs off 61 balls), contributing significantly to England’s formidable total.

The struggles extended beyond Rauf, with Mohammad Wasim Jr conceding 74 runs, and Shaheen Afridi giving away 72 runs. The collective performance of the Pakistani bowling unit faced challenges against England’s strong batting lineup in the match.
