India Records Best-Ever Asian Games Medal Tally: 81 Medals And Counting

Hangzhou: On Day 11 of the Asian Games in Hangzhou, India achieved its highest-ever medal tally with a total of 81 medals, surpassing their previous record of 70 medals from the 2018 Jakarta edition. India currently stands fourth in the overall standings, boasting 18 gold, 31 silver, and 32 bronze medals, marking a historic achievement in Asian Games history.

The day started with a silver medal for India in the mixed team 35km race walk final, courtesy of Ram Baboo and Manju Rani.

Next, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Pravin Deotale clinched gold in the compound mixed team archery event, narrowly defeating their opponents, 159-158.

In the mixed doubles squash semifinal, Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh secured a bronze medal for India, despite facing defeat against Malaysia’s Binti Azman and Mohammad Syafiq Bin Mohd Kamal.

Parveen Hooda contributed another bronze to India’s medal haul, bowing out to two-time world champion Lin Yu Ting of Chinese Taipei in the women’s 57kg semifinal.

In the women’s 75 kg Boxing final, Lovlina Borgohain claimed a silver medal after a unanimous 5-0 decision victory for China’s Li Qian.

Sunil Kumar added yet another bronze medal in the men’s 87kg greco-roman wrestling event, winning his semifinal bout against a wrestler from Kyrgyzstan.

Harmilan Bains secured her second silver medal in Hangzhou, replicating her success from the women’s 1500m final in the women’s 800m final.

Avinash Sable, who had previously won gold in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, earned a silver medal in the Men’s 5000m event with a time of 13:21.09s.

The Indian women’s 4×400 relay team continued the silver streak, setting an Asian Games record with a time of 3:27:85, finishing behind Bahrain.

In the men’s 4×400 relay final, the Indian quartet of Muhammed Anas, Rajesh Ramesh, Amoj Jacob, and Muhammed Ajmal clinched gold with a time of 3:01.58s.

Finally, in the Javelin throw final, India celebrated double glory as Neeraj Chopra secured gold with a season-best throw of 88.88m, while Kishore Jena grabbed silver with a personal best of 87.54m.
