India Shines at Special Olympics World Games 2023, Secures 202 Medals

Berlin: India concluded their successful campaign at the Special Olympics World Games 2023 in Berlin with a total of 202 medals. Their medal tally consisted of 76 gold, 75 silver, and 51 bronze medals. The closing ceremony took place at the iconic Brandenburg Gate, symbolizing unity and diversity.

Indian athletes showcased their exceptional skills on the athletics track, securing six medals in total. Aanchal Goyal and Ravimathi Arumugam were the standout performers, claiming gold medals in the 400m events. Saket Kundu demonstrated his versatility by winning a silver in the mini javelin and a bronze in the 400m event.

Dr Mallika Nadda, Chairperson of Special Olympics Bharat, highlighted the significance of inclusion and acceptance for these athletes within mainstream society. Their outstanding performances shattered stereotypes and proved their capabilities in various disciplines.

The Games concluded with a gathering at the Brandenburg Gate, where representatives from all countries celebrated the spirit of unity and promoted the Special Olympics movement.

The event attracted over 330,000 live attendees, along with a significant television and media audience. Berlin was praised for hosting a groundbreaking Games, and the athletes expressed gratitude for the city’s warm welcome and the opportunity to participate in such a remarkable event.

Hanna Joy Atkinson, a Sargent Shriver International Global Messenger, commended Berlin’s efforts in uniting nations and encouraged future host countries to continue fostering unity throughout the Games.
