IPL 2024: Navjot Singh Sidhu Set To Return to Commentary Box After Decade-Long Hiatus

Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu is set to make a comeback to the commentary box after almost a decade, delighting fans who fondly remember his charismatic presence during the early 2000s. Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the IPL, announced Sidhu’s return for the 2024 season, where he will provide commentary in Hindi starting from the opening match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings.

Sidhu, renowned for his flamboyance both on and off the field, made a mark with his witty one-liners and shayari, particularly in Hindi, during the early days of the IPL. Sidhu expressed his excitement about returning to his ‘home ground’ in the commentary box, stating that commentary is his passion and identity.

The former cricketer attributed his ease in commentary to his upbringing, where his father instilled a habit of reading newspapers and watching news bulletins regularly. This routine helped him develop mental strength, spontaneity, and language control, essential qualities for a successful commentator.

Despite his hiatus from commentary due to his political career, Sidhu has remained engaged with cricket and marvels at the longevity and resilience of players like MS Dhoni. He particularly praises Dhoni’s ability to maintain peak performance despite breaks from the game, highlighting his mental fortitude and exceptional fitness even at the age of 42.

Looking ahead to the IPL season, Sidhu expressed excitement about seeing players like Rishabh Pant in action, emphasizing the importance of character and resolve in overcoming challenges. He believes that obstacles can be conquered with determination and perseverance, citing examples from cricket history to illustrate his point.
