Renuka, Mandhana Star As India Women Win 7th Asia Cup Title, PM Modi Congratulates

Sylhet: Renuka Singh’s 3/5 and Smriti Mandhana’s 51* helped India women beat Sri Lanka women by eight wickets to win the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 at Sylhet today.

Asked to field first, India restricted Sri Lanka to 65/9 in 20 overs.

India dominated right from the start as Sri Lanka were reduced to 16/5 at the end of the powerplay. Renuka starred with an economical spell of 3-1-5-3. Just when Lanka were looking to put up a decent score, Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Sneh Rana stepped up to bag two wickets each.

In reply, Mandhana’s 25-ball 51* helped India chase the target in just 8.3 overs, guiding the Women in Blue to win their seventh Asia Cup title.

Renuka was adjudged the Player of the Match, while Deepti Sharma was named the Player of the Tournament.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the Indian women cricket team for winning the 7th Women’s Asia Cup.

In response to a tweet by the International Cricket Council, the Prime Minister said;

“Our women cricket team makes us proud with their grit and dexterity! Congratulations to the team for winning the Women’s Asia Cup. They have shown outstanding skill and teamwork. Best wishes to the players for their upcoming endeavours.”
