Rankings Boost For Mandhana, Deepti Following Asia Cup Triumph

Dubai: A pair of India stars have used their successful Asia Cup campaign to attain career-best rankings and edge towards the top ranking on the latest ICC Women’s Player Rankings.

India cruised to a seventh Asia Cup title earlier this month with a comprehensive eight-wicket triumph over Sri Lanka in the final and both Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma have been the major beneficiaries.

Mandhana hit a brilliant unbeaten 51 from just 25 deliveries in the title decider to cap off an excellent tournament and duly moved up one spot to second on the latest T20I rankings for batters.

The left-hander now has a total of 730 rating points, with Australia opener Beth Mooney (743) the only player in front of her.

It was a similar story for Deepti, who moves up one place to second on the latest T20I bowler rankings after her 13 wickets at the Asia Cup.

While Deepti went wicketless in the final, the spinner allowed Sri Lanka’s batters to score just seven runs from her four overs and was the equal leading wicket-taker at the tournament.

The right-armer has 742 rating points and jumps in front of Sarah Glenn (737) and has her England team-mate and fellow spinner Sophie Ecclestone (756) in her sight.

A pair of Deepti’s teammates also made giant strides inside the top 10 for T20I bowlers, with Renuka Thakur (up five places to equal third) and Sneh Rana (up five spots to 10th) the big movers.

Sri Lanka’s Inoka Ranaweera moves up 17 places to 15th on the latest list for bowlers following her 13 wickets at the Asia Cup, while Pakistan spinner Nashra Sandhu also jumps 15 spots to 29th.
