Disciplinary Concerns Led to Shreyas Iyer’s Exclusion from Afghanistan T20Is: Reports

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to make their return to T20I cricket as they join the Indian cricket team for the upcoming three-match series against Afghanistan. However, the exclusion of Shreyas Iyer has raised eyebrows among fans and experts alike.

Despite a commendable performance in the Cricket World Cup 2023 and his participation in the ODI and Test series against South Africa, Iyer finds himself left out. According to reports, selectors expressed dissatisfaction with his batting style during the recent Test series. Additionally, the team management reportedly disapproved of Iyer’s decision to opt for a holiday instead of playing Ranji Trophy matches for Mumbai.

Subsequently, Shreyas Iyer has been added to the Mumbai squad for the Ranji Trophy match against Andhra, scheduled from January 12-15. This presents a crucial chance for him to regain form and strengthen his case for inclusion in the upcoming five-match Test series against England, starting January 25.

In a squad shuffle, Iyer replaces middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan, who will join the India A team for the series against England A in Ahmedabad. However, Mumbai will miss the services of all-rounder Shivam Dube, who has been called up to the national team for the upcoming three-match series against Afghanistan, set to commence on January 11.

India’s Squad for three T20Is against Afghanistan: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar.
