Shyama Shaw Takes Charge as Indian Women’s Cricket Team Selector, Replacing Mithu Mukherjee

Mumbai: Former cricketer Shyama Shaw has been appointed to the senior women’s national selection panel, replacing Mithu Mukherjee. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) reviewed applications for the selector positions, and Shaw was selected.

Shaw, a left-handed batter and left-arm seam bowler, represented India in three Tests and five one-day internationals from 1995 to 1997. She played domestic cricket for Bengal and Railways and previously served as a selector for Bengal.

Mukherjee’s tenure as a selector ended after being appointed in September 2020. VS Thilak Naidu has also been appointed as the chairman of the junior selection committee, replacing S Sharath. Naidu, a former wicketkeeper-batter, had a successful career representing Karnataka and South Zone in various tournaments. He brings valuable experience to the junior selection panel.

The newly formed India Women’s selection committee consists of Neetu David as the chairperson, along with Renu Margrate, Arati Vaidya, Kalpana Venkatacha, and Shyama Dey Shaw. The junior cricket committee is led by VS Thilak Naidu as the chairperson, accompanied by Ranadeb Bose, Harvinder Singh Sodhi, Pathik Patel, and Krishen Mohan.

These appointments aim to strengthen the selection process for women’s cricket in India and ensure the identification of talented players for national and junior teams.
