T20 World Cup 2022: India Script Another ‘Heist’ At The Gabba

Brisbane: In a warm-up clash between the two biggest contenders for the T20 World Cup 2022 on Monday, India outdid Australia by six runs.

Australia were cruising in towards their target of 187 thanks to skipper Aaron Finch’s fiery 76 off 54 when Indian bowlers and fielders worked together to bring Men in Blue back in the game.

India were put in to bat by the Aussie skipper Finch. India got off to a flying start courtesy of a classy KL Rahul knock of 57 off 33. Later, Suryakumar Yadav continued the onslaught through the middle overs scoring 50 off 31 balls as the Blue Brigade posted a strong total of 186 on the board.

On the other hand, Kane Richardson was the pick of the bowlers for the Aussies, claiming 4 wickets for 33 runs in his four, whereas, Starc, Maxwell, and Agar chipped in with a wicket each.

In response, Australia started off rather well with Mitchell Marsh slamming 35 off 18. With Maxwell and Finch in the middle, Australia seemed pretty comfortable in the chase.

Courtesy of some superb athleticism by Virat Kohli at the boundary, India started to stage a fightback with the equation boiling down to 11 off the last over.

Mohammed Shami, who was recently included in the squad in place of the injured Bumrah was called on to bowl his first over of the game by the Indian skipper.

Shami did not break the trust of his captain as he successfully defended 11 runs in the last over with four wickets coming in the last four balls of the innings, including a run out that left the Aussies six short of the target.

This win over the Aussies will certainly act as a confidence booster for the Men in Blue for the matches to come.

Meanwhile, India is going to face New Zealand in the next warm-up encounter on Wednesday,  the 19th of October 2022 at the same venue.
