Women’s Asia Cup: Rodrigues Stars As Women In Blue Thump The Lankans

Bangladesh: India’s opening match in the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 was an one-sided affair at Sylhet Outer Cricket Ground, Bangladesh as Sri Lanka was rarely able to put up a fight against the mighty Indians.

After winning the toss, as has been the status quo in T20 cricket, Sri Lanka opted to field. India lost both its openers cheaply, and the Women in Blue set a target of 151 for the Lankans. However, Sri Lanka failed to chase down the target and was defeated by 41 runs.

After Star batter Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma threw their wickets, the inning was handled well by Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur.

Both of them put up a 93 run stand. In the course, Rodrigues smashed an aggressive 76 off 43 while Kaur admirably played second fiddle. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, did well to stem the tide, and India finished with a score of 150/6.

The Sri Lankan inning in response, never really took off. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Once Chamari went, it was always going to be tough for the rest and the Indian bowling lineup never really let them off the lever. Dayalan Hemalatha scalped two wickets while Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar claimed two each, bundling Sri Lanka out for a mere 109 in 18.2 overs, handing India a convincing victory.
