Google To Combat Fake News With New Image Search Features

California: Google is taking action to combat the spread of misinformation by adding two new features to its image search. The first feature, “About this image,” provides context by revealing when an image was indexed, its original appearance, and its online presence. This helps users identify the image’s source and access any debunking evidence from trusted news organizations.

In addition, Google will label AI-generated images created by its tools, collaborating with other platforms to ensure consistent labelling. This move addresses the increasing concern over manipulated images in the AI age. While other startups focus on verification tools, Google’s approach offers simpler yet impactful solutions with industry support.

The new features will roll out gradually throughout the year, enhancing image search and aiding in the fight against misinformation.
