Woman Sentenced to Death for Killing Toddler Over Neighbourly Dispute in Punjab

Ludhiana: A local court handed down a death sentence to a woman on Thursday for killing the two-and-half-year old girl of her neighbour in 2021.

The tragic incident stemmed from a reported dispute between the woman and the victim’s parents.

The court, presided over by district and sessions judge Munish Singhal, convicted 30-year-old Neelam on April 12. Public prosecutor B D Gupta confirmed the sentencing on Thursday, nearly three years after the crime.

According to reports, the kidnapping occurred on November 28, 2021, in Salem Tabri area of Ludhiana. The woman allegedly lured the toddler away before burying her alive in a nearby pit. The Salemtabri police station promptly registered a case, leading to a swift investigation and eventual conviction of Neelam.
