12-Hr Bandh in Kantabanji for District Status Demand

Kantabanji: A dawn-to-dusk bandh was observed in Kantabanji in Balangir district on Tuesday demanding separate district status. The Zilla Sangarsha Samiti of Kantabanji gave this bandh call.

As per reports, this bandh will continue from 6 am to 6 pm.

Normal life was disrupted as the members of Kantabanji Zilla Sangarsha Samiti picketed at different locations to block the traffic. All the shops, markets and other business establishments remained closed. Vehicular traffic on Kantabanji-Balangir, Kantabanji-Khariar was stalled.

But the agitators kept the vehicles of emergency services out of the bandh purview.

The agitators reiterated their demand for the declaration of Kantabanji as a revenue district. Several local organizations and political leaders expressed their solidarity to the bandh call. They threatened to intensify their stir if the government did not announce Kantabanji as a district soon.

Earlier similar bandhs were observed in Kantabanji on March 25, July 18, September 5, and November 24 for the district demand.
