New Delhi: Twenty new cases of COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 were identified across the country. Eighteen of them were found in Goa and one each in Kerala and Maharashtra, stated INSACOG data.

The Centre has advised all states and union territories to remain alert following the detection of the new JN.1 variant in the country.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya reviewed the preparedness of health facilities across the country on Wednesday.

During the past 24 hours, India recorded 614 new coronavirus infections. It is the highest since May 21.

The WHO has classified JN.1 as a separate “variant of interest” because of its rapid spread. But as per WHO it poses a “low” global public health risk.
