5 Kedarnath Pilgrims Die as Car Crushed Under Landslide Debris

Joshimath: At least five Kedarnath pilgrims died when the car in which they travelling was crushed under the debris from a landslide in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district on Thursday night.

The landslide occurred at Tarsali near Phata on the Guptkashi-Gaurikund highway. Stones and boulders falling from the mountain between Phata and Sonprayag crushed the car.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a rescue operation and pulled out five bodies from the mangled remains of the car on Friday.

The deceased included three from Gujarat and two from Haridwar.

According to the Uttarakhand State Emergency Operation Center, 58 people have been killed and 37 people have been injured so far in various incidents during this monsoon while 19 others are missing.
