Autopsy Confirms Gangster-Politician Mukhtar Ansari Died of Cardiac Arrest

New Delhi: The initial autopsy report on gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, who passed away in jail on Thursday night, has confirmed that he died of a cardiac arrest. Ansari’s demise had initially raised suspicions of foul play, with his family alleging he may have been poisoned while in custody.

Ansari, a former five-time MLA from the Mau Sadar seat, had been imprisoned since 2005, with around 60 criminal cases pending against him. He was serving his sentence at Banda jail and had received convictions in eight cases since September 2022 by various courts in Uttar Pradesh.

Upon experiencing a medical emergency inside the jail, Ansari was rushed to the hospital in Banda, where he was pronounced dead by doctors at Rani Durgavati Medical College. Despite his family’s claims of foul play, the hospital authorities attributed his death to a cardiac arrest.

Following the initial autopsy findings, which confirmed the cause of death, attention now turns to the final report, expected to reveal the precise time of Ansari’s passing.

Meanwhile, in response to the incident, security measures have been escalated across several towns in Uttar Pradesh, with prohibitory orders banning large gatherings and additional police deployment in districts including Banda, Mau, Ghazipur, and Varanasi.

To ensure transparency in the investigation, a panel of five doctors is slated to conduct a thorough postmortem examination on Friday. Meanwhile, a significant police presence remains stationed outside the Banda hospital where Ansari was declared dead.
