Body of Nayagarh Girl Found in Kandhamal Forest, 3 Arrested in Suspected Honour Killing Case

Nayagarh: The body of a 17-year-old girl from Sorada village under the Nuagaon police station in Nayagarh was found buried in a forest in the Phiringia area in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.

Nayagarh police have arrested three persons for their involvement in the killing of the girl. The arrested persons are relatives of the deceased. This hints that this may be a case of honour killing.

The father of the girl has also absconded along with other family members. They locked up their house and are hiding in some unknown place since Friday afternoon.

This alleged case of honour killing came to the fore when some neighbours enquired about the victim girl’s father Biprabara Nayak about her whereabouts on Friday. Biprabar tried to avoid the topic and absconded.

This raised suspicion in the minds of the neighbours, who informed the police about the missing girl. Three persons, who were relatives of the girl were apprehended and interrogated by the police. It was revealed that the girl was murdered and her body was buried in a forest in the Phiringia area of the Kandhamal district. The arrested trio led the police to the spot where the body was buried.

It is suspected that the girl was murdered by her family members, who did not approve of her relationship with a youth.

A case has been registered under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Investigation is underway, police said.
