5 Killed, 38 Injured as Bus Falls Off Flyover in Odisha’s Jajpur, CM Announces ₹3L Ex-Gratia

Jajpur: A devastating incident unfolded in Odisha’s Jajpur district as a bus carrying around 50 passengers skidded off the Barabati flyover on National Highway 16, leaving at least five people dead and 38 others injured.

The ill-fated bus, named “Kalia Nana,” was headed towards Kolkata from Puri when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle around 9 pm. Fire Brigade and police personnel rushed to the scene to launch a rescue operation.

Disturbing visuals emerged from the accident site, where mangled parts of the bus required gas cutters to reach trapped passengers.

Five passengers, including a woman, succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at the Dharmashala hospital. The critical condition of at least 38 injured necessitated their transfer to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced care.

In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his deep grief and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He has directed the authorities to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured, with the state government bearing the associated expenses.
