CBI Raids Medical Officer of Paradeep Port, Crores Worth Assets Found

Paradeep: Sleuths of CBI unearthed properties worth crores of rupees in the possession Dr Rajendra Narayan Panigrahi, a Public Health Officer working at the Paradip Port Health Organisation. This doctor was arrested by the CBI on Thursday on bribery charges.

CBI officials raided multiple places including his residence in Cuttack, ancestral house in Balasore and office in Paradip.

According to sources, cash in Indian and foreign currencies worth more than a crore rupees as well as moveable and immovable properties worth crores of rupees have so far been traced during the search.

The arrested doctor was taken to Bhubaneswar for further interrogation.

Panigrahi was nabbed by a CBI team while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 at his office in Paradip town from an agent of a shipping company.

According to an official source, Panigrahy accepted the bribe for checking the health condition of crew members of a ship. Allegedly, the doctor used to often demand bribes from crew members of most of the ships coming to Paradip town to issue health reports. He had amassed a large amount of money through this process during the COVID-19 pandemic.
