DRI Busts Major Wildlife Trafficking Ring, Rescues 351 Indian Tent Turtles in Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) successfully thwarted a wildlife trafficking attempt near Manguli Toll Plaza in Odisha’s Cuttack district. Acting on specific intel, DRI officers conducted surveillance and intercepted an SUV from West Bengal carrying three passengers.

Upon questioning, it was revealed that the vehicle was transporting 351 Indian Tent Turtles from West Bengal to Karnataka. Notably, the Indian Tent Turtle holds Schedule–I status under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, entailing the highest level of protection.

Prompt action led to the immediate transfer of the rescued turtles to Odisha State Forest officials. Additionally, the three individuals accompanying the vehicle were detained and handed over for further investigation under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
