FIR Against Hockey Player For Raping Woman Multiple Times

Bengaluru: An FIR has been lodged against an Indian hockey player Varun Kumar in Bengaluru under POCSO Act for allegedly raping a woman multiple times on the pretext of marriage.

Varun Kumar was included in the Indian team in 2017. He was in the team that won a silver medal at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

As per the woman, who is now 21, the hockey player Varun Kumar raped her multiple times in the past five years. When she was 17, she came in contact with Varun Kumar through Instagram in 2019. At that time Varun Kumar was training at the Sports Authority of India.

Varun Kumar hails from Himachal Pradesh but shifted to Punjab for hockey.

According to police sources, Varun Kumar is absconding and a search is on to nab him. A Karnataka police team have reached Jalandhar to arrest him.
