PM Modi Hands Over G20 Presidency to Brazilian President Lula

New Delhi: The G20 Summit in New Delhi concluded, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi passing on the G20 presidency to Brazilian President Lula in a ceremonial handover. President Lula commended PM Modi for his efficient leadership of the G20 and the excellent work done during the summit.

During his closing remarks, President Lula emphasized the need for greater representation of developing countries as both permanent and non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. He also called for increased representation of emerging countries at institutions like the World Bank and IMF. The President outlined G20 priorities, including social inclusion, the fight against hunger, energy transition, and sustainable development.

In response, PM Modi proposed a virtual G20 summit in late November to review the progress made on the decisions taken during this summit. With India holding the G20 presidency until November 2023, PM Modi stressed the importance of revisiting the suggestions and proposals put forth during the summit to accelerate their implementation.
