History Lecturer, Son Arrested for Branding Daughter-in-Law With Hot Pan Over Dowry

Jagatsinghpur: A woman lecturer serving in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district was arrested by police along with her son on charges of branding her daughter-in-law over dowry.

The arrested lecturer Suprava Jena, a history lecturer at Swami Vivekananda Memorial Autonomous College in Jagatsinghpur allegedly branded her daughter-in-law Rashmita Behera with a hot pan after the latter burnt rotis while cooking a few days ago.

Rashmita, a native of Dhenkanal district, had lodged a complaint regarding it at the Bhuban police station.

The police arrested Suprava and her son Digvijay Kharavel on Monday. According to police sources, the woman lecturer was allegedly torturing her daughter-in-law over dowry.
