IND vs AUS, 2nd ODI Preview: Aussies Opt to Bowl Eyeing Staunch Comeback as India Aim To Seal Series

Indore: India and Australia are set to clash in the second match of their three-game ODI series on Sunday, September 23 at the Holkar International Stadium in Indore. With just two matches remaining before the 2023 World Cup, India’s primary focus is evaluating player performances ahead of the mega event, commencing on October 5.

In the opening game, Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammed Shami showcased impressive performances, boosting their confidence. KL Rahul also demonstrated good form, scoring a century and a half-century at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.

Indore has been a favourable venue for India in ODIs, with a perfect record of six wins in as many matches. Notably, in September 2017, India secured a five-wicket victory against Australia at the Holkar Stadium.

Regarding the Australian team, there’s uncertainty regarding the return of Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc. Pat Cummins and company are cautious about risking these players with an eye on the upcoming World Cup.

The Australian side is eager to see their batsmen capitalize on their starts. In the first ODI, despite losing by five wickets, several Australian batsmen reached the 20s, 30s, and 40s but failed to convert these starts into substantial scores. Mitchell Marsh, who has been in excellent form recently, will be eager to make amends with a match-winning performance in Indore.

Head-to-head statistics between India and Australia reveal that out of 147 matches played, Australia has won 82, while India has won 55, with 10 matches ending in no result and none tied. In matches hosted in India, India has won 31, Australia 32, and 5 have resulted in no contests.
