Kalahandi Teacher Grows World’s Costliest Mango

Bhawanipatna: Rakshyakar Bhoi, a teacher and mango farmer in Kalahandi district is reported to have grown ‘Miyazaki’, the world’s costliest breed of mango, in his orchard.

Rate of Miyazaki mango is exorbitant. It sells at Rs 2.5 lakh to 3 lakh per kg in the international market.

Since long Rakhyakar, a mango farming enthusiast of Kandulguda village under the Dharamgarh subdivision of Kalahandi district is experimenting with various mango varieties in his orchard.

In the past, Rakshyakar had tried to grow the ‘Miyazaki’ mango tree in his orchard. According to sources, he had got the seed of this rare mango variety through the Odisha horticulture department. He was successful in his attempt.

Miyazaki is originally a Japanese mango breed. It has a distinct flavour and ample medicinal value. It is high in vitamins A and C, as well as antioxidants. It also contains dietary fibre, potassium, and magnesium.

Its appearance is unique and colourful.
