Lockdown Love Story Ends in Ghastly Triple Murder in Assam

Guwahati: The romance that flourished between 25-year-old Nazibur Rahman Bora and 24-year-old Sanghamitra Ghosh during the Covid lockdown in Assam’s Golaghat district ended in a gruesome triple murder.

Nazibur murdered Sanghamitra and her parents on Monday. Then holding their nine-month-old baby in hand, he surrendered to police.

Nazibur, a mechanical engineer by qualification, and Sanghamitra became close through Facebook in June 2020, during the nationwide lockdown for Covid 19. In October 2020 they eloped to Kolkata to marry.

Sanghamitra’s parents brought her back home. In 2022, Sanghamitra’s parents registered a police complaint, accusing her of theft. Sanghamitra was arrested and spent over a month in judicial custody. After getting bail, she returned to her parent’s home. , police said.

In January 2022, Sanghamitra and Nazibur eloped again to Chennai and lived there for five months. Sanghamitra was pregnant when the couple returned to Golaghat in August 2022.

While living at Nazibur’s home, Sanghamitra gave birth to a son in November 2022. But in March 2023, Sanghamitra left Nazibur’s home with her infant son and started living with her parents. She registered a police complaint against Nazibur alleging torture and an attempt to murder.

Nazibur was arrested and was released on bail after 28 days. Sanghamitra did not allow Nazibur to meet their child.

On Monday afternoon, tension between Nazibur and Sanghamitra’s family turned violent. In a raze Nazibur murdered his wife Sanghamitra and her parents.
