Raipur: A hardcore Maoist commander Nagesh alias Pedkam Erra gave up arms and surrendered before the security forces in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.
The 38-year-old Maoist leader carried a bounty of Rs 8 lakh on his head.
He surrendered in the presence of senior police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials. He expressed his disappointment with the “inhumane” and “hollow” Maoist ideology.
The government’s rehabilitation policy also attracted him to give up violence and join the mainstream.
Erra joined the Maoists in 2003 as a local organisation squad (LOS) member. With time he became a company commander of the banned outfit.
He was involved in the Tadmetla massacre in 2010, in which 76 troopers were killed, and the 2017 Burkapal attack wherein 25 CRPF personnel lost their lives.
