Mohammad Rizwan Appointed As Vice-Captain Of Pakistan’s T20I Team

Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan as the vice-captain of the men’s national T20I team. Rizwan will serve as the deputy to Shaheen Shah Afridi, who assumed the captaincy following Babar Azam’s resignation from leadership roles across all formats after the ICC World Cup 2023.

The announcement, made on X (formerly Twitter), reflects the ongoing restructuring within the team’s leadership and board structure post the ODI World Cup 2023. Babar Azam’s exit from the captaincy came on the heels of Pakistan’s fifth-place finish in the tournament, where he personally scored 320 runs in nine matches, with an average of 40 and a strike rate of 82.90.

Notably, Shan Masood was recently appointed as the Test format skipper, while Shaheen Shah Afridi was handed down the role of T20 captain. This leaves Babar Azam out of the official leadership structure, signifying a significant change in the team dynamics.
