Bhubaneswar: Nandankanan Zoological Park, located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, is set to inaugurate a newly constructed aerial ropeway ride facility. The State Forest Department Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the facility on November 17.
The facility, executed in collaboration with Kolkata-based M/s Damodar Ropeways & Infra Limited, is scheduled to open its doors to visitors starting November 18.
The agreement for this project was forged over a year and a half ago, marking the culmination of meticulous planning and collaboration. Capable of accommodating up to 3,000 visitors daily, the ropeway will seamlessly connect the Botanical Garden and Nandankanan Zoo, providing a convenient and enjoyable mode of transportation.
This initiative, undertaken as a public-private partnership (PPP), reflects the Odisha government’s commitment to enhancing the park’s appeal and fostering a memorable experience for visitors. With an investment of approximately Rs 13 crore, the project underscores the importance of preserving and showcasing the natural wonders of Nandankanan.
Established in 1960, Nandankanan Zoological Park encompasses a sprawling 437 hectares, making it a significant zoo and botanical garden in Odisha. In 2009, it achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first zoo in India to join the esteemed World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). The introduction of the ropeway further elevates the park’s status as a premier destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers.
