Nitish Kumar Likely to Take Oath as JD(U)-BJP Govt’s CM on Jan 28, Sushil Modi to be Deputy: Reports

Patna: If reports in the media are to be believed, Nitish Kumar is likely to be sworn in as Chief Minister of Bihar on January 28, leading a coalition government with the BJP. Veteran BJP leader Sushil Modi is expected to assume the role of Deputy Chief Minister. Sushil Modi, commenting on the unfolding events, described politics as a “game of possibilities” and hinted at doors opening.

The RJD chief has urged Nitish Kumar to provide clarity by this evening. BJP’s top sources have conveyed that the party leadership has instructed the Patna unit to take a measured approach in proposing a formula for government formation. A decision is likely to emerge after a two-day executive meeting, starting tomorrow, with the presence of BJP’s national general secretary Vinod Tawde.

Amid the political upheaval, BJP leader Giriraj Singh expressed openness to Nitish Kumar’s return to the NDA. He stated that the central leadership’s decision would be welcomed by the party. The current tension in the JD(U) and RJD alliance has escalated, particularly after the Bharat Ratna was conferred on socialist icon Karpoori Thakur by the BJP-led Centre.

The political crisis has been marked by Nitish Kumar’s ‘parivarvaad’ remark, drawing a sharp response from Lalu Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya. Congress is closely monitoring the situation, expressing skepticism about Nitish Kumar’s potential shift back to the BJP. The party sources also raised doubts about the alliances with Chirag Paswan and Upendra Kushwaha.
